Yellowknife, NWT – Nearly 50 military personnel from Yellowknife are in Iqaluit this week for Operation Nanook, a major rescue training exercise.
Members from Joint Task Force North, the 440 Squadron stationed at the Yellowknife Airport and some Rangers are taking part in the operation.
They are all part of an 800-member contingent conducting two separate search and rescue operations.
The biggest of which will see teams simulate the rescue of 50 passengers from a grounded cruise ship in Frobisher Bay, roughly 90 nautical miles from the Nunavut capital.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper took time out of his northern tour Tuesday to watch members in action.
Operation Nanook is set to wrap up Thursday.
