Yellowknife Fire Division deems downtown apartment fire non-suspicious

Yellowknife, NWT – Yellowknife’s Fire Division says a fire at the city’s Hilltop Apartments on 47th Street over the weekend is not being deemed suspicious at this time.

On Friday night, a number of teams were alerted by a passer-by that smoke and flame were visible from the apartments.

When responders arrived on scene, black smoke and fire were visible from a second story window.

Officials say the fire was initially knocked down but flared up again while crews were establishing a water supply.

It was successfully extinguished with the fire contained to a bedroom.

Officials say heat and smoke damage extended to the second floor of the suite though, with water and smoke damage extending to the first floor.

A total of 23 personnel responded to the fire.
