Yellowknife RCMP lay charges in murder of Elvis Lafferty

Police in Yellowknife have charged a man in connection with the murder of Elvis Lafferty and the assault of a woman.

In the early hours of Monday, RCMP responded to an incident on Lanky Court where they found a critically injured man and woman.

The man, who’s been identified locally as Elvis Lafferty, was pronounced dead at Stanton Territorial Hospital, while the woman was taken by medevac to Alberta for further treatment. Her condition is unknown at this time.

On Tuesday afternoon, RCMP announced charges of second-degree murder, attempted murder and aggravated assault against 36-year-old Kevin Mantla, who turned himself into police after the incident.

He’ll remain in custody until his court appearance on Wednesday morning.
