A teenager facing charges for alleged drug trafficking in Ft McPherson

A 16 year-old youth is facing charges following a police seizure of illegal substances and $10,000.

Police announced this morning that a 16-year-old youth is facing charges stemming from an incident that happened on Friday in Fort McPherson, according to the report.

“On September 26th, Fort McPherson RCMP received information from the public indicating that drugs were being sold at a residence in the community. Officers attended the location and found a suspect attempting to flee through a window,” said Fort McPherson RCMP.

The youth, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is from B.C.

Officials said that a search of the residence found suspected illegal drugs and thousands of dollars in cash.

“A search warrant was obtained and executed on the residence. In total, police recovered approximately 20 grams of suspected crack-cocaine and over $10,000 in cash,” said police

Officials also reported that at the time of the incident, the youth had violated bail conditions.

“At the time of his arrest, the youth was already subject to bail conditions stemming from prior firearms-related offences,” said police.

The youth is now facing charges including:

  • Possession of a controlled substance for the purposes of trafficking, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
  • Failure to comply with release order conditions, contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the Criminal Code

RCMP reported that the youth was held for a bail hearing and was released on conditions that he return to British Columbia.
