Environment Canada: overly smoky conditions a risk to one’s health

Yellowknife, NWT – While smoke conditions have improved in Yellowknife, serious health risks are associated with the inhalation of forest fire smoke when it does roll into town.

Environment Canada reported on Tuesday that the city’s air quality was a high health risk.

According to the Air Quality Health Index, on a scale from one to 10 where air pollution poses a risk to one’s health, the city scored a nine.

The federal government says the rating jumped from a low-risk two earlier in the day.

Citizens with heart and lung problems are encouraged to take precautions, and keep strenuous outdoors activities to a minimum.
