RCMP report outage affecting some telephone communications

The RCMP announced that they have been made aware of a communications outage affecting some telephone communications.

“The full-scope of this outage is not known at this time however Northwestel is aware of the problem,” said officials today in an announcement this afternoon.

Police received reports of some phone calls not reaching detachments but said that 911 services appear to be functioning.

“In the event the public requires non-emergency service and regular phone numbers are not working, proceed directly to your local detachment,” said officials.

Police ask the public to contact police using 911 for an emergency only. For other matters, if police cannot be reached by phone, RCMP ask the public to proceed directly to their local detachment.

Police in Hay River say that an Indigenous man is missing from the community and are asking the public for assistance to locate him.

The GNWT is reducing office hours including at the department of Education, Culture and Employment in the North Slave Regional and Community Service Centres in Yellowknife and Behchokǫ̀. While officials with the department say the reduced hours are currently temporary, they added it may become permanent.
