Post offices in the communities of Whati and Fort Providence are being closed until further notice. Canada Post issued a red delivery service alert for Whati and Fort Providence in response to the wildfire situation and the recent evacuation orders put in place in these two communities.
An Evacuation Order was issued for Whati on Friday morning and an Evacuation Order issued Sunday morning for Fort Providence after fire weather conditions and fire activity increased nearby the communities.
“Canada Post is putting contingency measures in place, assessing the situation and options to best serve residents and to keep them connected,” said Geneviève Joly, who is a media representative with Canada Post.
Packages, letters and other post items are being stored off site in the meantime.
“Incoming mail is being securely held off-site until further notice,” said Joly, in an email announcement issued today.
“The delivery service alert will be posted and updated on our Delivery service alerts webpage and on our @canadaposthelps X account. As information is updated on mail availability, delivery and postal services, it will be posted on our Closures and service interruptions webpage,” added Joly.
