Newly appointed R.C.M.P Commanding Officer ready for new role

Yellowknife, NWT – The territory’s newest top cop says he looks forward to the challenges that lay ahead.

During a Change of Command Ceremony last Wednesday, Superintendent Ron Smith officially assumed control of the R.C.M.P’s G Division from Chief Superintendent Wade Blake.

Smith had previously served as the Officer in Charge of Criminal Operations in the N.W.T since 2011.

“In essence anything that happened in the division investigational-wise went up through my office, so that has afforded me the opportunity to understand the frontline and issues in each of the communities. On a bigger scale, it helped me understand some of the more serious investigations as well.”

Smith says he looks forward to forming stronger relationships with fellow members, community leaders and residents of the N.W.T.

He says the force is in good hands so long as members strive to make every detachment a better place than when they arrived there.
