Yellowknife’s bi-annual airshow rolls into town this weekend

Yellowknife, NWT – If you happen to notice an increase in air traffic over the weekend, there’s good reason for it.

The bi-annual Northern Skies International Airshow is coming to the Yellowknife Airport.

Gordon Van Tighem is chair of the Airshow Society.

He says a bus circuit should make life easier for people hoping to make it out.

“We’re trying to make it as convenient as possible so the city busses will be running at 9 o’clock picking people up at the Co-op, the Community Arena and School Draw in a circuit that will be running continuously throughout the day. We look forward to seeing as many people as possible.”

Van Tighem says there will be a C F-18 Hornet, an army parachute team and civilian acts to look forward to Friday.

That’s in addition to a performance by the Snow Birds.

Van Tighem says admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children over the age of five.

He says most funds will cover out-of-town pilot hotel costs.
