G.N.W.T increases funding provided to resident filmmakers

Yellowknife, NWT – A revised G.N.W.T film funding program aims to better reflect the stages through which northern films are developed.

That’s according to the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment, which will now provide further funding for film development under its “Support to Entrepreneurs and Economic Development” or SEED Policy.

Associate film Commissioner Camilla MacEachern is with I.T.I.

“The SEED policy program is what the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment uses to assist Northwest Territories businesses and entrepreneurs with financial contributions that support business start-up and other activities.”

MacEachern says funding will primarily assist with costs associated with completing film projects in small production and pitch production.

In a news release, I.T.I Minister David Ramsay says the department wants to continue to improve and adapt its programs to provide the most timely and appropriate support for resident filmmakers.

Through its SEED policy, MacEachern says I.T.I provides $100,000 in support of N.W.T filmmakers annually.
