Reid Lake Campground remains closed as fire crews fight nearby blaze

Yellowknife, NWT – Environment and Natural Resources crews continue to assess and plan operations for the fire near Reid Lake that forced a temporary closure of part of the Ingraham Trail over the weekend.

E.N.R officials say teams are preparing for a potential burnout operation but conditions over the next few days will determine when the action can be conducted.

They say the operation is intended to keep the fire from advancing south and west towards the Ingraham Trail.

Reid Lake Campground will remain closed until further notice.

All other campgrounds and day use areas in the North Slave region are open to the public.

E.N.R asks that the public use caution and to only use fire for warmth or cooking and to respect all fire bans.

Officials also say smoke conditions could worsen in the city this afternoon and later tonight.
