City of Yellowknife extends hours of public washrooms beside City Hall

Yellowknife, NWT – The city of Yellowknife says it has extended the hours of its public washroom facility at Somba K’e Civic Plaza for the rest of the summer.

Facilities Manager Dave Hurley with the city explains why.

“The major reason why we’ve extended it is the beautiful weather we’re having and because the park is very central and popular. We get good use out of the facility during the weekend but also during the evenings and weekdays.”

Hurley says the washrooms were open roughly 21 hours a week last summer but will be open 42 hours a week this summer.

He says the city has found a way to make it more accessible without incurring additional costs, though he says there will be an attendant on site to clean the washrooms and to ensure there is no misuse or abuse of the facility.

Hours of operation had been restricted in past summers due to concerns over vandalism.
