Ingraham Trail to close near Reid Lake due to forest fire

Yellowknife, NWT – The G.N.W.T’s Department of Environment and Natural Resources says the Ingraham Trail will be closed at kilometer 37 effective midnight Saturday.

Communications Manager Judy Mclinton with E.N.R explains why.

“E.N.R recommends a closure to the Department of Transportation because of a forest fire in the area. This is a precautionary measure. We’re requesting the north end be closed since the fire is only about 11 kilometers east of the Ingraham Trail around Reid Lake.”

Mclinton says the fire has been burning for a while now but heavy winds carried the fire closer to the trail Friday.

She says camp sites will not be available on Hidden Lake, Cameron River, Reid Lake or Tibbitt Lake this weekend.

E.N.R is sending in resources to deal with the fire immediately.
