Highway 3 re-opens after reduced visibility due to smoke forced closure

Yellowknife, NWT – Good news for motorists heading out along Highway 3 Friday morning.

The route is now open between Fort Providence and Behchoko after it was closed for parts of Thursday due to smoke from nearby forest fires.

Department of Transportation officials say visibility continues to be reduced due to smoke in the area so they are asking motorists to drive with extreme caution.

On Thursday night, Regional Manager of Highway Operations Del Miller for the North Slave region told CJCD Moose FM News smoke along the highway had visibility down to between 300 and 500 metres at times.
