Yellowknife’s Explorer Hotel has received planning approval for a 72-room expansion.

A banquet hall, presidential suite and meeting rooms are also set for development alongside the new rooms.

They will form a new wing of the hotel, overlooking the site of a rival hotel complex being developed by Nova Builders.

The plans were initially submitted in June, with a view to construction beginning in the next 18 months if the necessary building permit is received. The Explorer will offer around 260 rooms once the expansion is complete.
