Innovation Contest Seeking Northern Applications

NWT students are being invited to take part in a unique competition.

The Rideau Hall foundation is a non-partisan, national charitable foundation, and they are putting together a special event called the Ingenious+ Challenge. This event is encouraging Northern youth to take part in an initiative that encourages them to come up with ideas that will have  positive impact on the lives of others. Every year, this Challenge has specific themes that are to be focused on, and this year’s themes are:

  • Community and Civic Engagement
  • Climate Change and the Environment
  • Equity and Inclusion
  • Health and Well Being, and
  • Technology and Entrepreneurship

Participants are asked to submit their ideas to the Challenge, where they will then be considered. Ideas that meet the requirements will then have the chance to be selected for one of two hundred regional awards of $1,000, which also comes with networking resources, mentorship programs, and other learning opportunities. Eligible ideas are also placed in the running for one of the 13 National Finalist awards within their region.

A special portion of the prize money is being put aside for any winners from Nunavut, Yukon, and the Northwest Territories. Previous winners from the North have been tasked with facing challenges relating to the environment, social issues, and technology.

Applications for the Ingenious+ Challenge can be submitted at ingeniousplus.ca until February 28th. The winners will be announced during Canadian Innovation Week from May 26th to the 30th.
