UPDATE: Fort Smith RCMP Locate Wanted Man

Fort Smith RCMP are asking for the public’s assistance to try to locate a man wanted on several charges including possession of a dangerous weapon and theft of a motor vehicle.

In a news release, Mounties state they responded to a complaint of a break-in and motor vehicle theft this past Sunday. 

Police were told that a man had broken through the front door of a residence and stole a vehicle from the same property. 

Police say they were told that the suspect was armed with a long gun at the time of the offences. 

RCMP have charged Christopher Wanderingspirit with pointing a firearm, possession of a dangerous weapon, theft of a motor vehicle, break and enter to a residence and at least two court breaches.  

A warrant has been issued for Wanderingspirit who police say remains at large. 

He is described as an Indigenous male, approximately 5′ 8″ tall, weighing about 170 pounds with short dark hair.

Mounties add that the suspect and the victim are known to each other and they do not feel there is a safety risk to the public at this time. 

They add if you encounter Wanderingsprit, do not approach him but call Fort Smith RCMP at 9-1-1 or 867-872-1111 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).   

UPDATE: Wanderingspirit has been taken into custody.
