Three NWT Students Revealed as Finalists for 2025 Loran Awards

A handful of Northern students have been selected by the Loran Scholars Foundation as the finalists for the Loran Award.

The Loran Scholarship Foundation was first launched in 1988, and keeps an eye out for graduating high school and CEGEP students across Canada who exhibit notable leadership abilities and demonstrate an exceptional strength of character. The Loran Award offers its recipients a four-year leadership program, a tuition waiver, and unique opportunities for additional learning.

For this year’s award, four students from Canada’s northern regions are in the running, with three of them from the NWT. The northern finalists are:

  • Ella Bertelsen from Yellowknife, who is attending Brentwood College School.
  • Audrey Debogorski from Yellowknife, who is attending Ecole St. Patrick High School
  • Stella Fairman from Yellowknife, who is attending Ecole St. Patrick High School
  • Anya Lera from Whitehorse, YT, who is attending Porter Creek Secondary School

These four students are among the top 1.5 percent of applicants, and were pulled from a pool of more than 6,000 total candidates.

From here, these sudents will be invited to Toronto for the Loran’s National Selections from February 21st to the 23rd. After that weekend, a total of 36 Loran Awards will be presented. Even students who are not selected to be Loran Scholars will still have an opportunity to receive a $6,000 Loran Finalist Award.
