United Way Donates $850k to Hay River Agriculture

In order to help the Town of Hay River in restoring some of the agricultural lands, United Way NWT is donating $850,000 to the community.

This is part of United Way’s ongoing wildfire recovery and emergency preparedness program. This project is titled “Hay River Agricultural Restoration: A Path to Renewal” and is designed to help rebuild important farming areas that were damaged by the 2022 floods and 2023 wildfires. The project is hoping to reestablish Hay river as the Agricultural hub of the North.

United Way has been helping with similar projects in the last few months, with a total investment of $1.472 million dollars sent to recovery efforts across the Northwest Territories.

Kandis Jameson, the Mayor of Hay River, said in a statement that the town is thankful for the support shown by United Way NWT to help rebuild after the flood and fire events of the last few years. The grant to support renewing the agriculture sector will have a lasting positive impact on farmers and the region, helping to launch Hay River as the Agriculture Hub of the North.”
