Hay River’s Joey’s Sweets and Things closes its doors

Yellowknife, NWT – A well-known Hay River business has officially closed its doors.

Candy store Joey’s Sweets and Things closed for good last Friday after almost 26 years in business.

It was run by sisters Shari and Pat Burnstad and Diana Field.

We asked Field how she’ll remember her time at the store.

“It’s been very rewarding meeting all sorts of different people and certainly enjoying the kids that came into the shop. We’ve also seen lots of trends in candy and crafts but it’s definitely time to shut it down.”

Field says they had strong feelings about education and wouldn’t sell candy to kids who were skipping class.

She says they decided to close the shop because they were getting older.

Fields says she has no immediate plans but says she’d like to do some travelling.
