Fire at Yellowknife seniors’ facility sends one to hospital

One person was sent to hospital following a fire at the Mary Murphy Home in Yellowknife Thursday night.

Firefighters responded to a report of alarms ringing at the seniors’ housing facility on 52 Street around 6:45pm.

When crews arrived, a fire had already been extinguished in one of the building’s suites after sprinklers were activated at the site. No active firefighting was required.

One person was sent to Stanton Territorial Hospital suffering from minor burns and smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
