Military personnel take part in Prospector’s Challenge in Yellowknife

Yellowknife, NWT – As many as 50 military personnel from Joint Task Force North will be taking part in a physical fitness competition in Yellowknife Thursday morning.

J.T.F.N says this is the first time the Prospector’s Challenge has taken place in the N.W.T capital.

The competition includes a ruck march on Deh Cho Blvd. and along the Ingraham Trail followed by a canoe portion on Yellowknife Bay.

Captain Bonnie Wilken with J.T.F.N asks residents to be respectful around competitors.

“For people in the community that are going to see us out conducting this, we’d really like them to slow down if they see people marching on the road because it can get quite dusty. If you see people canoeing or marching this is what it’s all about and they can feel free to cheer them on if they’d like.”

Wilken says as many of 50 military personnel will provide support for the competition, including staffing aid stations, first-aid and safety boats.

She says there will be three different competitions of varying difficulty.
