Premier McLeod wants Northern focus in federal election

NWT Premier Bob McLeod has written to the four main federal party leaders to ask how they’ll approach the North if their party forms Canada’s next government.

McLeod sent letters to leaders of the Conservative Party, Liberal Party, NDP and Green Party Wednesday.

Within them, he asked the leaders how they’ll deal with issues like economic development, transportation infrastructure and public housing – among other issues critical to the North’s growth and sustainability.

“The GNWT recognizes the power of partnerships with the federal government and also with Aboriginal governments, industry and communities,” McLeod wrote in the letters.

“We are anxious to learn how you see our government’s relationship with the incoming federal government unfolding in the years ahead.”

McLeod has asked for responses by September 19. Replies will then be made available for the public to see.
