GNWT & Federal Government Commit $94.5 Million for Infrastructure

The GNWT and the Federal Government have committed $94.5 million over the next ten years for long term funding to Northern communities.

This is part of the Canada Community Building Fund. The renewal of this agreement will continue to support infrastructure and housing, making sure that communities are maintained and expanded. Previous assistance from this program has helped to construct the community hall and fitness centre in Fort McPherson, and upgrades to the water and sewer systems in Hay River.

Michael McLeod, the Member of Parliament for the Northwest Territories, said that this investment “provides communities across the NWT with the flexibility to invest in strategic infrastructure projects that help address their local priorities. This funding is essential to building affordable and inclusive communities for residents to live, work, play, and raise families, while protecting the environment.”

The Government of Canada is renewing the CCBF in communities across the country, dedicating a total of $26.7 billion to local infrastructure projects. After the first five years, funding levels will be reassessed to reflect the 2026 Census.
