RCMP overcome barrier, sword in Lanky Court drug search

One police officer and one suspect were sent to hospital following the execution of a search warrant on Lanky Court in Yellowknife Wednesday night.

RCMP say the search, which began around 8:45pm, was part of a drug investigation. When officers tried to gain entry into an apartment unit door, they discovered that it had been fortified.

As members tried to overcome the fortification, suspects inside thrust a sword through the door in what police say was an attempt to stab the officers. It’s not yet clear if that’s how one of the officers was injured.

RCMP eventually gained entry to the unit and arrested four males – three adults and one youth. A small amount of marijuana and a sword were seized as part of the investigation.

The injured officer and suspect were sent to Stanton Territorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries but were later released.

No charges have been laid at this time. All four suspects are in custody as police continue to investigate.
