Yellowknife RCMP Temporarily Close Street to deal with Potential Hostage Situation

The Yellowknife RCMP were forced to temporarily close down a section of a downtown street while they dealt with an investigation.

The call they received informed them that a person living on 47th Street was potentially being held hostage, and that a firearm was being used. When officers arrived on the scene, they were joined by the Northwest Territories Emergency Response Team to help shut down the street.

Three individuals have been arrested, and multiple firearms were seized. No charges have yet been laid, as this matter is still under investigation.

Yellowknife residents are advised to follow the directions of officers while they are conducting these kinds of operations. The RCMP acknowledges that these kinds of street closures can be disruptive, but they are intended for the safety of the public, and to give officers enough room to effectively conduct their operations.
