Gerry Kisoun appointed as the commissioner of NWT

Gerry Kisoun has been appointed as the commissioner of the Northwest Territories (NWT).

Commissioner Kisoun was born on the trapline in 1953 and brings extensive experience to his new position. From 2011 until 2017, he was the deputy commissioner. After George Tuccaro, the previous commissioner, retired, he also filled the position of acting commissioner.

He will play a crucial role in representing the North’s interests as the Northwest Territories advance towards self-determination and reconciliation.

The role of Commissioner Kisoun requires a profound bond with the people and culture of the Northwest Territories. As an esteemed elder with Inuvialuit and Gwich’in ancestry, his life has been dedicated to the traditions and stories of the Mackenzie Delta. He is known for his empathy, tolerance, and commitment to the welfare of the people across the territory.

Three more N.W.T. schools show enhanced levels of lead in water

Three more schools show high levels of lead in drinking water, testing so far confirms that 35 of 45 schools sites in the N.W.T. have elevated levels of lead, about 78 per cent. Two more schools in the territory showed elevated levels of copper in drinking water.
