Bike Rodeo Returns to Yellowknife after Four Years Away

The City of Yellowknife is once again inviting young students to take part in the annual Bike Rodeo.

Put together by the Municipal Enforcement Division, the 36th Annual Bike Rodeo is a free event for children from Kindergarten to Grade 6 held at the Multiplex. Kids will be able to participate in an obstacle course to test their bicycle safety knowledge. Helmets will be sized and provided for anyone who needs one.

Several prize packages will be given away, and face painting and a barbecue will also be available.

The MED is excited to be putting this event together, as it is the first time the City has held the Rodeo since 2019.

As if in preparation for the Rodeo, the City has also given out several bicycle safety reminders for residents, now that bikes are a more common means of transport. Riders are reminded to properly signal their intentions to both pedestrians and motorists by either voice, bell, or hand signal. Wearing bright clothing can also make riders more visible to everyone around them, especially during the night. Cyclists must also follow the flow of traffic by staying on the right side, and obey all other traffic signs and rules of the road.
