Yellowknife, NWT – National Tourism Week takes place across the N.W.T and Canada this week.

To celebrate, Northwest Territories Tourism has created a contest that provides residents with a chance to win one of five trips for two to a different region of the territory.

Executive Director Cathie Bolstad with N.W.T Tourism explains.

“We recognize that friends and family are often a big portion of the visitors that came to the Northwest Territories and in recognizing that people from all over the world travel to the N.W.T, we wanted to make sure we had a contest for our own territorial residents so that they can familiarize themselves with the wonderful and spectacular things in their backyard.”

In a news release, Industry, Tourism and Investment Minister David Ramsay says tourism is the greatest renewable resource in the territory and contributes $100-million to the economy every year.

He says over 76,000 tourists came to the territory in the 2012-2013 year, which was one of the highest totals in the last decade.
