Tehjeh Deé among locations captured as part of ‘From Far and Wide’ stamp series

Canada Post unveiled the fourth edition of its ‘From Far and Wide’ stamp series, a collection that celebrates the breathtaking beauty of Canada.

This edition features nine picturesque Canadian locations, each captured by talented Canadian photographers. Among these is the Tehjeh Deé (South Nahanni River) National Park Reserve in the Northwest Territories (NWT), with a stunning photograph taken by photojournalist Colin Field in June 2016.

The stamp not only showcases the beauty of nature but also the people who are passionate about it. Wendy Grater, a legendary figure in the paddling world and, founder of Black Feather Wilderness Adventure Company, which organizes nature adventure trips to the NWT, can be seen on the left side of the image. Sitting in the front of her boat is Lyn Elliott, Visitor Experience at Parks Canada, NWT, at the time. Elliott now works for the Department of National Defence in Ottawa.

Mark Scriver, another figure in the Canadian paddling scene who now guides arctic adventures with companies such as Churchill Wild and Quark Expeditions, can be seen in the back of the other boat.

“I remember that trip very well,” says Scriver. “I have many fond memories of that river.” Scriver has made 14 trips on the river between 1984 and 2016. The river is almost 600 km long and has numerous special and awe-inspiring places, he adds. It holds a special place in the hearts of many Canadians, indigenous people, and paddlers from around the world.

Laani Uunila, who worked for Parks Canada and had recently moved to Tulita when Field met her, is now the Implementation Manager for Thaidene Nene National Park Reserve at Parks Canada in Yellowknife.

The “From Far and Wide” stamp series offers a variety of options catering to every stamp enthusiast’s needs. The set includes five permanent domestic-rate stamps, available in booklets of ten, reels of one hundred, and strips of five and ten thousand. International, oversized, and U.S. rate stamps are available in booklets of six, bundles of fifty, and strips of four and ten. For the collectors, there is a special treat-a commemorative sheet and postcards featuring each of the nine stamps to cherish the beauty of Canada’s diverse landscapes.
