N.T.P.C continues to battle fire near Bluefish plant

Yellowknife, NWT – A fire, believed to have been started by a raven touching a power conductor on the transmission line not far from the Northwest Territories Power Corporation’s Bluefish plant, continues to burn Tuesday morning.

That’s according to N.T.P.C officials.

They say the fire started just before 5:30pm Monday, shutting down power to Yellowknife, Behchoko and Dettah.

Diesel generators were started and power was fully restored to the communities just over an hour later.

N.T.P.C says two water bomber aircraft were dropping water within an hour and a half of the incident and Department of Environment and Natural Resources fire crews were onsite by 8:30pm.

At this time no assets are at risk of damage beyond the transmission towers involved in the fire.
