Investigation Underway after Pedestrian Struck by Low-Speed RCMP Vehicle

The Yellowknife RCMP are currently investigating an incident where a pedestrian was struck by one of their own patrol vehicles.

On the evening of April 16th, officers were called out to respond to a complaint at the Salvation Army. When they arrived, officers were speaking with a man that the staff wanted to have removed from the premises. The officers were able to dissolve the situation, and the man left on his own accord.

While on the scene, officers ended up dealing with a second person who was connected to an unrelated incident. This individual was taken into custody and placed in the back of the patrol vehicle. As they were leaving the area, the first man that police had spoken to was struck by the vehicle.

Officers quickly provided first aid to the man and contacted EMS, who then took him to the hospital for further treatment. His injuries are reported to not be serious.

The RCMP have claimed that their investigation into this matter has suggested that the man ended up laying down in front of the police vehicle after he walked away, and while the vehicle was unoccupied.

All available evidence for this incident is being collected and reviewed by the Forensic Identification Section.
