Behchoko R.C.M.P investigate a string of suspicious fires in community

Yellowknife, NWT – Behchoko R.C.M.P say they continue to investigate several suspicious fires in the community.

Police say one fire broke out near the community’s Fire Hall, a second broke out at the community centre and a third, more dangerous one, destroyed a minivan parked at a local business Monday.

Sergeant Barry Ledoux with the Yellowknife detachment says there is potential or any fire to become dangerous.

“In situations where you have people setting deliberate fires within the community, you have to think of the possibility of that fire potentially spreading to a household with occupants inside. Worst case scenario is one of those fires could result in death with a person being held criminally responsible.”

Ledoux says no one was injured in any of the fires.

He says police are trying to determine if all three are connected.
