Great Slave Lake Once Again Ranked Among Best Ice Fishing Locations

The NWT’s Great Slave Lake has been ranked as one of the best locations in Canada for ice fishing.

Fishingbooker.com, a platform for fishing trips and information, ranked several of Canada’s lakes to find some of the best spots across the country for ice fishing.

Just as it did in 2022 and 2023, Great Slave Lake was ranked as one of the nine best ice fishing spots in Canada. It is in fact the only location to make this list three years in a row.

One of the factors contributing to its inclusion is the fact that it is available throughout most of the year. While this last season has seen warmer than usual temperatures, Great Slave Lake still remains reliably frozen over for much of the year, and as the deepest lake in North America, and one of the largest lakes in the world overall, there is plenty of space for many ice fishing enthusiast to take advantage of.

The lake is also home to species of fish that are attractive to ice fishermen, including Northern Pike and Lake Trout, as well as Arctic Grayling, Walleye, and Whitefish.

The other lakes included on the list are;

  • Golden, BC
  • Muskoka Lakes, ON
  • Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pérade, QC
  • Tobin Lake, SK
  • Cold Lake, AB
  • Falcon Lake, MB
  • The Shacks/Kennebecasis River, NB
  • Muskrat Lake, ON
