The City of Yellowknife has shared the snow cleaning schedule for the week of December 10th.

Monday, December 10, 2023

  • McDonald Drive from Weaver Drive to McMeekan Causeway; and
  • 54 Street from Franklin Avenue to 53 Avenue.

 

Tuesday, December 11, 2023

  • 49 Street from 52 Avenue to School Draw Avenue; and
  • Finlayson Drive from Kam Lake Road to Range Lake Road.

 

Wednesday, December 12, 2023

  • Franklin Avenue from School Draw Avenue to Weaver Drive;
  • Franklin Avenue from 43 Street to 41 Street; and
  • Forrest Drive from 51A Avenue to Con Road.

 

Thursday, December 13, 2023

  • Old Airport Road from Kam Lake Road to Byrne Road;
  • Old Airport Road from Byrne Road to Kam Lake Road; and
  • Con Road from Forrest Drive to House No. 73.

 

Friday, December 14, 2023

  • Old Airport Road from Byrne Road to Range Lake Road;
  • Old Airport Road from Range Lake Road to Byrne Road; and
  • School Draw Avenue from House No. 4301 to Lundquist Road.

Residents are reminded to make sure that these streets are clear of vehicles on the evenings before they are cleaned. Any vehicles that are still on the street at the time the cleanings take place will be towed. Residents are advised that there will be traffic delays in snow removal areas and if possible, to use an alternate route to avoid delays.

New microgrant stream wants youth to plant language seeds outside school

“100 youth projects wanted in French,” a new microgrant program wants youth to plant language learning seeds outside school. A network of action-research teams in Canada, other parts of North America, Africa and Europe is launching a youth grant stream to support French language engagement outside of conventional spaces. Youth across the country aged 14 to 30 are eligible for 100 microgrants in support of grassroots initiatives as part of this program run by the Dialogue Network.

Water testing at another Yellowknife school confirms elevated lead and copper

Testing at another school site in the city of Yellowknife showed elevated levels of lead and copper in water present in some of its drinking taps. Earlier this month, testing showed four other school buildings in Yellowknife and a school in Behchokǫ̀ had elevated levels of both copper and lead in water. Since comprehensive testing of schools across the territory began this fall, 28 school sites out of 34 announced to date have tested positive for elevated levels of lead.
