Yellowknife Fire Department Responds to Brush Fire at Solid Waste Facility

On Friday, December 1, at 9:00 a.m. the Yellowknife Fire Division (YKFD) received a call for service to a small brush fire in the construction waste area of the Solid Waste Facility. When crews arrived on scene, smoke and flames were visible from a pile of brush.

The City of Yellowknife used excavators to move the brush around in an attempt to extinguish the fire, while YKFD used water to assist in containing the fire. The fire was controlled and extinguished.

The Solid Waste Facility was temporarily closed to facilitate firefighting activities and ensure public safety, but has since re-opened to the public.

The Yellowknife Fire Division responded with one fire truck, one water tanker, one ambulance and eight firefighters. The immediate cause of the fire is unknown.
