Winning Floats Announced for Santa Claus Parade

This past Saturday, community members got into the holiday spirit as they gathered on the streets of Yellowknife to watch the Santa Claus Parade. Every year, the participating organizations that spread the most cheer win a prize. This year’s theme was “Yellowknife Strong” and with 23 fantastic floats, the judges had their work cut out for them. After some deliberation, the City of Yellowknife has officially announced the winners of the 2023 Santa Claus Parade:

  • 1st Place: The Scouts

 

  • 2nd Place (tie): YKDFN/Flash Pilot Car & Hot Shot Services Ltd.

 

  • 3rd Place: Great Slave Helicopters

The Scouts will also receive the not-for-profit annual Roland Gosselin Ho Ho Ho Award, a $500 prize made possible by a generous donation from Roland’s family. This award honours Roland Gosselin, a longtime resident who is fondly remembered for playing the role of Santa Claus in many past holiday events.

The City has expressed its thanks to all the participants, attendees and volunteers for the hard work that went into making the parade come to life.

The Annual Great Ptarmi Hunt returns to Yellowknife this weekend

Yellowknifers are gearing up for the Great Ptarmi Hunt this weekend on the Frame Lake trail.  As one longtime Yellowknifer Andrew Brohart put it, ptarmis are pint-sized plush ptarmigans—”Yellowknife’s very own twist on the Easter egg hunt.” “100 Ptarmis will be hidden along the Framelake Trail from the Pool to the Legislative Assembly,” said organizers.
