NWT Fire pushes fire safety as wildfires slow across the NWT

NWT Fire has issued the final daily wildfire update as wildfire season continues to slow throughout the territory.

Throughout the NWT, cool, damp conditions hamper wildfires; however, officials say the change does not mean the risk of fires is over.

After the City of Yellowknife lifted the fire ban in the municipality, the GNWT has issued a list of actions to take in order to prevent human-caused wildfires heading into the fall.

According to the GNWT, spot selection, preparation, and putting the fire out are key measures for campers to take.

“Wildfires caused by people never need to happen and they’re usually the most dangerous because they start closer to the things we value most,” the GNWT says.

Residents are reminded to remain prepared, take preventative measures, and protect property and valuables.
