Enterprise begins re-entry, accommodation extensions available for residents who lost homes

The Hamlet of Enterprise has announced re-entry has begun at 12:00 pm on September 22, 2023.

According to the Hamlet, Council met last night to review the re-entry plan to determine whether to re-open the community.

Based on their findings, Council determined fire crews are “comfortable” that the hotspots have been dealt with sufficiently. Additionally, Northland Utilities says they are in a position to adequately provide power to the remaining structures in the community.

“We are confident power will be back up and running this morning, therefore the re-entry will happen as planned,” the Hamlet said this morning.

Despite re-entry, some areas of Enterprise remain hazardous, and cannot be re-entered safely. Barricades, caution tape, and other items are present in affected areas to prevent re-entry.

Due to structure loss and damage in the community, several residents are left without a home to return to. Anyone who has lost their home is asked to call the GNWT’s Municipal and Community Affairs office at 867-874-2193 for an accommodation extension.

According to the GNWT, Environmental Assessors will be in contact through phone with residents to determine whether re-entry is safe based on the status of their home.
