Inuvik RCMP Seize Drugs, Cash, & Firearm from Same Man in Two Seperate Arrests

Inuvik RCMP recently executed a drug warrant search, which resulted in them seizing several grams of crack-cocaine and a bundle of cash.

On August 17th, Inuvik officers conducted a traffic stop within the town. A 28-year-old man from Edmonton was in the vehicle, and was promptly arrested after officers discovered that he was the subject of an active arrest warrant.

During the search, officers found 13 grams of crack-cocaine, as well as $500 in cash. The man was released for a future court appearance, with charges of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of the proceeds of crime and failing to comply with court conditions.

Later in the month, on August 30th, Inuvik officers received a complaint indicating that a man was armed with a handgun inside an apartment building within the town. Officers arrived on the scene and arrested the man, who turned out to be the same man from the August 17th traffic stop. The man was once again found in possession of crack-cocaine.

A search warrant was acquired for the apartment, where investigators discovered 110 grams of crack-cocaine, scales, packaging materials and a handgun. The man is facing additional drug charges as well as three firearms charges. The man has been remanded into custody and will be transferred to a correctional center in the south.

Sgt. Jesse Aubin, the Inuvik Detachment Commander, said in a statement that “The drugs and firearm seized during the course of this investigation represents a significant disruption in the local drug trade.  The Inuvik Detachment remains committed to combatting the distribution of these harmful substances in our community”.
