Minimal Changes in North Slave Fires, Rain Expected on Thursday

NWT Fire is expecting more warm conditions for the North Slave Complex on Wednesday, making for more challenging firefighting conditions.

The North Slave area is seeing record breaking heat as it continues to experience a heat wave in the area. This is caused by a high-pressure system coming from Beaufort Delta, which is combining with a low pressure system from the southwestern NWT.

NWT Fire is expecting gusty winds heading into Wednesday, which they believe won’t calm down until later in the afternoon. The high temperatures, combined with the wind conditions, make for much more aggressive fire behaviours.

Some relief may be on the way, however. Thursday is calling for some light rains in the area, as well as some thundershowers on Thursday evening.

Changes from the previous update are minimal. The Dettah fire has seen small growth to the southwest, but all other fires in this area remain identical to the last update.
