Free fuel for evacuees no longer available in High Level

The Town of High Level has announced a change to emergency fuel available in the community for NWT evacuees. 

Effective August 28, 2023, emergency fuel will no longer be free for residents in High Level unless an individual is newly evacuated and heading south. 

The change comes after several days of sustained free fuel for evacuees passing through or staying in High Level. 

According to the Town of High Level, all expenses related to the emergency fuel program will be reimbursed through the provincial Disaster Recover Program at no cost to High Level taxpayers directly. 

MyTrueNorthNow has reached out to the Town of High Level for comment regarding whether fuel will be supplied upon reentry, and now awaits word from the municipal government.
