Protections In Place Around Dettah, while Ingraham Trail Fire Listed as”Being Held”

Protections are continuously being put in place around Dettah, while the Ingraham Trail Fire is listed as “Being Held.”

In Dettah, the fire remains approximately 29 kilometres away from the community at its closest point. The fire has reached the south shore of Defeat Lake, progressed along the east and west shores of Hearne Lake, and has reached the area of Watta Lake. While the fire remains out of control, crews are constantly monitoring the area and are preparing to action hotspots and any other possible containment breaches.

Meanwhile, the fire along Ingraham Trail was last mapped at 50,125 hectares, and has not moved since NWT Fire’s last update. While the fire is being held, this does not mean it is safe to return yet. Being held indicates that with currently committed resources, sufficient suppression action has been taken that the wildfire is not likely to spread beyond existent or predetermined boundaries under prevailing and forecasting conditions.

At this time, work is being done on containing the south line of the fire, and protecting locations of value around Prosperous, Prelude, Bliss, Sparrow and Hidden Lakes. Now that this fire is classified as being held, crews can begin assessing and making plans to bring the rest of the fire eventually under control.
