King Charles issues statement regarding NWT/BC wildfires

King Charles has issued a statement through the Governor General to communities across the country struggling with wildfire devastation 

In the statement, His Majesty and his wife Camilla expressed their concerns regarding the recent states of emergencies that have been issued in the Northwest Territories.

“My wife and I were desperately concerned to learn of the recent states of emergency declared in the Northwest Territories and British Columbia due to wildfires,” King Charles says.

“The beauty of Canada is not limited to its landscapes; its true beauty lies in the strength and resilience of Canadians and the care and concern they show to one another in the face of adversity,” the message continues.

In the statement, the King recalls his recent visit to Yellowknife and the Northwest Territories in 2022, saying he can’t imagine the heartbreak in those communities as they face this disastrous situation.

Organizers said the event revitalizes the community and fosters unity within Dettah and Ndilo, as well as in Yellowknife and surrounding regions. Hundreds of people from across the region attend each year to take part in traditional and northern activities.
