The United Way NWT has distributed all funds received to date to charities that affect over 28,000 NWT wildfire evacuees, amounting to over $700,000.
The United Way NWT says organizations in Alberta that support NWT evacuees are eligible for funding that covers urgent needs of evacuated NWT residents. According to the United Way, seven Alberta-based agencies and organizations have received funding to support evacuees.
“Many evacuees urgently need essentials like food, hygiene, gasoline and some evacuees have complex needs around healthcare,” United Way says.
United Way adds while the $700,000 has been incredibly helpful, there remains a pressing need for more donations.
