City begins garbage collection for essential workers at three designated locations

The City of Yellowknife has released a message for essential staff who have remained in the city throughout the evacuation process. 

According to the City, curbside residential waste will be collected across Yellowknife and N’dilo and the City says collections will take several days to complete.

The operation is intended to reduce wildlife entering the city due to food attractants. 

Anyone remaining in the city is asked to refrain from using their curbside garbage cart during this time, instead bringing their garbage to the recycling depot at the corner of School Draw and Franklin, in front of City Hall, or the Co-op Recycling depot on Old Airport Road.

Last week, testing showed that three Yellowknife area school buildings and a school in Behchokǫ̀ showed elevated levels of both copper and lead in water from some drinking water fixtures.
