Officials urge any non-essential residents in Fort Smith to evacuate as winds forecasted to create increased fire activity

Fort Smith Protective Services says the wind conditions will blow gusts toward the town of Fort Smith over the coming days, and are urging any non-essential people who may remain in the area to evacuate immediately.

In a social media post late Saturday, officials say the fire south of Fort Smith remains very active, and fire activity will increase with wins blowing directly towards town over the next 48 hours. Despite the municipality and fire agencies having completed a lot of mitigation work, the town remains not safe at this point.

Officials are urging anyone who may know someone in the town to get in touch with them and ask them to leave immediately, as they remain at risk.
