City urging all residents to heed evacuation order

Officials with the City of Yellowknife are pleading with all residents to follow the evacuation order set down by the Government of the Northwest Territories. The municipality says it’s critical for those who live in Yellowknife, N’dilo, Dettah, and Ingraham Trail directing do everything in their power to be out of the region by 12 p.m. Friday.

Fire behavior is expected worsen in the next few days, with aa heavy increase in smoky conditions, and the potential, that the fire could reach the outskirts of Yellowknife by the weekend.

The city says those who disregard the the evacuation order places themselves, and anyone else with them at a risk to exposure to dangerous levels of smoke, reduces resources available for first responders and essential services, and puts essential workers at greater risk if they have to divert attention to ensure safe evacuation of those who were ordered to leave.
