Evacuation order issued for City of Yellowknife, Ndilǫ, Dettah

An evacuation order has been issued for the City of Yellowknife, Dettah, Ingraham Trail and Ndilǫ.

The evacuation order was issued by the GNWT shortly after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, with Minister Shane Thompson telling impacted residents they hope to have all residents in the effected region out by noon on Friday, by plane, car, or bus.

The territorial government says there will be an evacuation centre set up at the Yellowknife Multiplex to provide support to residents that need it, with a suggested evacuation city as Calgary, Alberta.

As of 8 p.m. Wednesday, the government says the highway remains safe to travel on to leave the NWT, south to Alberta.
