Three North Slave Parks are now Closed to the Public

Several parks in the North Slave Area have just been closed to the public out of wildfire concerns.

NWT Parks are asking residents to immediately leave the Reid Lake, Prelude Lake, and Fred Henne Territorial Parks no later than 1pm on Thursday, August 17th.

The wildfires, as well as the current state of emergency in Yellowknife, has caused resources for the parks to become extremely limited, or entirely unavailable. Wildlife continues to be an issue in these parks and ECC staff are not always able to respond due to the demands of the emerging wildfire situation.

Gates to these parks will be closed as of 1:00 PM on Thursday. Any items left in the parks will be unavailable for retrieval until the parks re-open and will not be secured. NWT Parks are clear that if anyone wishes to leave their campers within the parks, they cannot be held liable for any damage they sustain.

Anyone with questions for park staff can call (867) 446-2461, and more park alerts can be found by clicking here.
